Edgar A!. Poe, Stephen King, John Steinbeck, Tom Clancy, John Grisham, Frank McCourt, Samuel Clemens!!, Stephen Crane, Walt Whitman, Herman Melville None of them are 'girly', and if you want something hilarious from Clemens, try his book, "Innocents Abroad"Www@QuestionHome@Com

All of the authors listed in the first answer are really great!. You could also try out George Orwell (start with 1984, not Animal Farm), Lewis Carroll, Frank Portman wrote a great book called King Dork, not really classic by any means, but definitely worth the read!. J!.D!. Salinger, for sure!. Walt Whitman might be little challenging as he was an extreme transcendentalist and wrote very literally which, after years of public school education beating "deeper meaning" into your brain, can be a little hard to grasp!.
