Question: Would "the strange case of Dr!. Jekyll and Mr!.Hyde" be a historical fiction book!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
No, The Strange Case of Dr!. Jekyll and Mr!. Hyde would be considered a work of Gothic fiction!. (There is some mystery, so you could call it a Gothic mystery story, but the genre is Gothic!.)

From Wikipedia: "Gothic fiction (sometimes referred to as Gothic horror) is a genre of literature that combines elements of both horror and romance!." The romance part of the definition has nothing to do with today's Romance novels, instead it was a specific literary movement!. also from Wikipedia: "Romanticism is a complex artistic, literary, and intellectual movement that originated in the second half of the 18th century in Western Europe, and gained strength during the Industrial Revolution!. It was partly a revolt against aristocratic social and political norms of the Age of Enlightenment and a reaction against the scientific rationalization of nature, and was embodied most strongly in the visual arts, music, and literature!."

I would say it isn't!. Neither Dr!. Jekyll or Mr!. Hyde are actual figures from history!. A book, say, about Jack the Ripper could be because there actually was such a person!. Yes!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
