You'll meet Gatsby at a party!. In the copy I own, it's probably 1/3 of the way or so into the book!.

I think Fitzgerald waits so long to introduce Gatsby because it creates an aura of mystery!. You find out a bit about Gatsby's mysterious past before you meet him, which makes the reader want to discover what Gatsby's *real* past it!. Introducing Gatsby later also fits with Gatsby's character well, because the fact that Gatsby hosts so many parties becomes important later in the story!. Fitzgerald needed to establish the constant flow of parties before he introduced Gatsby for purposes of the plot!.!.!. but I can't say why otherwise the book will be ruined!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think he waits so long to introduce Gatsby because you never truly get to know him at all!. Throughout the entire book you hear multiple different stories about every aspect of Gatsby's life!. He is a complete mystery!. When Nick first meets Gatsby he is not even aware it is him!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I read this book and loved it!. He is introducing the characters in a certain order and showing the relationship between the social classes!. Gatsby is part of the neuvaux riche (New Money)!. Trust me, this book is good!. Even if you are reading it for school I think you will enjoy it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
