James Marsden and Stephanie Meyer have been taken, amongst others!. Dick might be a good author- he's wrote loads of books and quite a few have been made into films too! The most obvious "alternate reality" book of his is "The Man in the High Castle" which takes place in a world where the Nazis have won World War Two!. These books are funny, reference well known literature, and deal with an alternate-reality: dodo birds can be cloned at home and there are no computers!.
