There is not much information at Wiki, until you look under "External Links" and follow those to Haddix's web site, where you can choose this book and read first the synopsis there, then the FAQs (frequently asked questions) and more!.

I read that Haddix says: "I never actually gave an exact time or place for this story!.!.!. on purpose!.!.!.I pictured it happening 20 or 30 years in the future!.!.!.but!.!.!.didn't want!.!.!.like "1984"!.!.!.for the book to lose effect like that one!.!.!."
