Question: In the Sci-Fi genre who are some of your favorite characters and why!?

Several of my favorite characters come from the same novel, so I've grouped them first:

Jos Musey (Warchild by Karin Lowachee): As the narrator, Musey is instantly sympathetic and likeable!. You need to have the emotional range of a teaspoon not to feel for him in the initial chapters!. He's broken and afraid, but still finds the inner-strength to overcome a series of incredible hardships!. My favorite thing is that Lowachee left him flawed, even at the end of the book!. He never overcomes his anger!. He still questions his loyalties and choices!. But he's able to put the past behind him and deal with the reality of the present!. Great character!.

Vincenzo Falcone (Warchild by Karin Lowachee): From the same book!. Falcone is hands down the scariest, creepiest character I've read!. There's this feeling that he really is capable of anything, and when other characters are around him there's a genuine sense of peril!. He still gives me the creeps whenever I reread the book!. He's easy to hate, but he never becomes a caricature or overblown!. You understand his motivations and it's easy to believe that he doesn't think he's a bad guy!. His evil comes in his indifference to morality!. Great character and fantastic villain!.

Cairo Azarcon (Warchild by Karin Lowachee): A perfect foil to Falcone, Azarcon is guided by a strict moral compass!. Even though it may not always agree with the letter of the law, he follows the spirit of justice!. His character and background are more fully explored in Burndive, where he proves its capable to escape a past full of darkness and come out a stronger person!.

Bob Arctor/Agent Fred (A Scanner Darkly by Philip K!. Dick): Arctor is the heart of this great novel, set in a future that feels only a couple years away!. He is an officer of the law, a narcotics agent who uses the drugs he's trying to get off the streets in an effort to establish his alias!. As a side-effect, he begins to suffer from a split in his personality!. I think there is something very sad and grim about this character and his fate!. He's another one who's very sympathetic!. And at the end, when all the pieces are finally revealed, I don't think you can help but feel sad for him, but a sense of hope remains as well!.

prot (K-PAX by Gene Brewer): Despite never really knowing whether he's crazy or an alien, prot is an endearing and interesting character!. At times thoughtful and philosophical, he's alternately wacky and irreverent!. His beliefs are so odd, you really want to believe he comes from this Utopian society!.

Peter and Valentine from the Ender's Game series (though Peter gets old quickly, so he kind of fades out of the series)!. Peter because he is so evil and manipulative, yet there are signs that he might still truly, honestly care for his siblings and others around him!. I think the psychology behind Peter is great!. I love Valentine because she's outwardly moral and loving, but once Ender goes to space, her personality is, in a way, put into question!. also, Lenina in Brave New World because she is programmed a certain way, so does that automatically make it right that John subjects her to such treatment and "humiliation!?" I think that all of the characters in that novel are interesting once I mulled over it, though!. It's just grade A writing, really!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Master Chief from Halo 3
Predator from the movie "Predator"
Alien from the "Alien" movies
