Question: In the book, Fellowship of the Rings, what happened to the dwarfs of Moria!?

Long ago, in the second age, the Dwarves opened the mines of Moria seeking Mithril, the metal they called Truesilver!.

They dug too deep though, and woke "nameless Horrors" that lived deep in the earth and it killed or chased them all away!.

Fast forward to the third age, about twenty years after Bilbo Baggins found the One Ring in the Hobbit and about thirty years before Frode set off for Rivendell!.

A group of Dwarves, led by Balin (One of the Dwarves of the Hobbit,) led an expedition to reclaim the mines!. They cleared the mines of the orcs in them, but they stayed higher up, avioding the lowest levels where the evil things slept!.

In the end, though, the orcs and goblins continued their attacks and eventually killed all the dwarves!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the originial dwarves of Moria dug deep for Mithril until they found a Balrog, which destroyed their underground city!. The book also has a group of dwarves from the North, who returned years before to try and rebuild Moria!. They were destroyed by the Orcs and Balrog as well, and their bodies and a journal were found by the Fellowship!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
