I've read the series and I wouldn't classify myself as a hater, but a so-so-er!. I think I can answer the question of why some people think Edward is an abusive boyfriend!.

First, Edward is extremely over-protective of Bella, in a bad way!. He is manipulative and is extremely jealous!. He keeps her away from her friends, before basically ditching her to pick up the pieces of her splintered heart!. He uses numerous control tactics, such as frightening her, attempted suicide, he doesn't allow her to make or disagree with his 'final' descions!. He sneaks into her room!. In New Moon, when he leaves, Edward hides her things and he keeps Alice away!. When he goes to commit suicide, I think that also shows mental help!. When Bella is grounded in Eclipse, basically her only visitor during 'visiting' hours are with Edward!. When she is set free, she wants to go see Jacob, but Edward doesn't let her!. He also has Alice basically kidnap her!. He also continually watches her sleep!. also, if you read the first chapter of Midnight Sun!. He contemplates how to kill her and all the students in the science room!. Definately perfect boyfriend material!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

You think I'M stupid for hating the series!? I think you're stupid for liking it!. It's pointless drivel, and when so many great books can be taught in class, there's this!.!.!.this garbage! Bella is a Mary-Sue--I mean look at her name! She might as well have been named Sakura Tenshi!--and Edward has absolutely no flaws, except for being a weird stalker, and that's not even played as a flaw! Meyers repeats the same descriptions over and over again, drumming some things into our heads, like how Bella's car is noisy, and how Edward has liquid topaz eyes, while completely skipping out on characters other than Edward!. What do her classmates even look like!? Bella's supposed to be plain looking and unattractive!. Explain why she has 5 different fanboys!. Reading this book was physically taxing on my body!.

Stupid is not a nice name to call someone you've never met!. I feel hurt and unrightfully judged!.

Anyway, I am one of those stupid people that think Edward is abusive!. He crossed the 'overprotective' line a long time ago!.

The first time I thought something was up was when he admitted to breaking into Bella's house and watching her sleep!. Fans have told me that he only did it because he loved her!. If you woke up to a boy you hardly knew in your room, would you hug him and tell him how sweet he was!?

Then he started using his strength to get her to do things!. That's why she never sees Jacob in Eclipse!. Edward didn't want her to, and Bella can't do anything Edward doesn't want!.

He got his sister to literally kidnap her!. This crosses the 'overprotective' line by a mile!. Again, I've heard people say that it's just because he loved her!. Do you realize that battered women everywhere say the same thing about their abusive husbands!?

Boyfriends shouldn't stop you from going anywhere or seeing anyone, no matter how much they love you!. Bella was eighteen, and able to make her own decisions!. Edward just wanted control!. Whether he loves Bella or not, trying to control her decisions is abusive!.

That's all I have to say!. If you still think I'm stupid, then I pity you!. I pity you because some day you might not be able to tell the difference between love and abuse!.

Edit: Hey, I did give the book a chance!. Five chances, actually!. I've read all of the books, including the first 12 chapters of Midnight Sun!. I'm sorry that I don't like it like you do, but that's just the way I feel!. Everyone has different opinions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He's too PERFECT as Meyer's made him!. Every perfect guy has a major defect!.!.!.But maybe he just acts perfect o compensate!? And he turns Bella into a liar!. He totally manipulates her to do what he wants her to do!. He's cocky, an asshole, and an overall stuck up prick!.

ok first of all, u just should kno that there r a ton questions on this subject if ur really looking 4 an answer!.!.!. just search "edward abusive" but with that said-- i think that edward is abusive cuz he's so manipulating but i dont blame him!. i think that he luvs bella so much he cant help but b! it's all abt her, isnt it!? hes a a vampire!.!.!. he's used to getting wat he wants!.!.!. he can get what he wants!.!.!. but what he wants is about 1000x more craving than wat u want!.!.!. he cant help it and he controls himself a lot more than u do! anyhow its all essentially about bella!! since this is just a book and this is all theoretical dont get hyped abt it!.!.!. u like it!. some ppl dont!. so wat!? i just think that this book kinda ruins the saga!. but o well!.!.!. cant b obsessed over the same thing 4ever! its kinda ovr and done with!.
