I am 13 and have read every book at the classics section of the library including every Dickens, Doestyevsky, and Poe!. I have also read many political books by authors such as Orwell and others!. My friends say thats stupid that I read that much and don't have any video game consols!. Do you have any lesser known books that are really good reads!. 10 points to whoever gives me a great book that I have not read!. Plus, Do you think I spend too much time reading and that I am missing out on other stuff!? ThanksWww@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
No - you can never read too much!. Books are like the essence of knowledge all closed up inside their pretty covers until someone unleashes them and they flow into the mind!.

Have you read H G Wells!? War of the worlds and Island of Dr!. Moraeu are excellent!. I'm guessing you've read 1984 (also excellent), what about gullivers travels!? I suppose it depends on what kind of genre you like!. I mostly read fantasy/ sci fi so here are some of my favs - Eragon, Eldest, Series of unfortunate events (brilliant), The tales of the otori series -> Across the nightingale floor is the first and best one I think!.
Random books - Austen (probably read), Tolestoy (War and peace!?) ah what about 'the northern lights' - Philip pullman!? Hmmm!.!.!.!. Alice in wonderland, peter pan, robin hood, Robinson crusoe, Moby Dick, wuthering heights, Wizard of Oz, A wizard of earthsea, Tolkein's books - all those are great!.

Well that about all I can think of!. Hope it helps!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

what about in search of lost time by marcel proust, it is over several volumes and narrates a mans entire life, it is known for its philosophical and psychological themes!. you could also try reading some of the dialogs by the ancient greek philosopher plato, some of these such as the republic, the symposium and the apology of socrates have had a major influence on western intellectual and literary culture!.

as for what your Friends say, you are much better of following a more intellectual path, I wish that I had not wasted some of my life at your age on those retched games consoles, I am 18 now and some of my Friends still play on them as if they were children, you are much better of without them, reading and thinking are far greater pleasures!.

also have you ever thought of learning another language that way you could broaden your horizons to include the literature of that language without having to read translations!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, you obviously like classics, ever thought of reading any modern books!? What is your main genre interest!?

Oh, and no, you aren't missing out on other stuff!. There's no such thing as reading too much!. Just remember that if you are missing out on videogames, your friend is missing out on books!. -Just make sure books don't take over your life, the devils, they've done that to me before!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Have you read Ernest Hemingway yet!? Try him out!.

also, on the moderner side, anything by Chuck Palahnuik!. He's twisted like Poe :]

Kurt Vonnegut's really great!.

Catch 22 by Joseph Heller!.
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kessey(I think that's the name)
A Clockwork Orange by Burgess!.

A lot of these books are kind of darker and meant for older ages, but I think you'll be alright, especially since you've already read so much!.

And just for your friends information, people who read are way cooler than those who don't!. ;DWww@QuestionHome@Com

i don't have any video game consols either and i don't know how to spell it!. i don't think i know any good books but maybe u should read some shakespeere(don't yell at me cuz i spelled it wrong!) if u haven't already!.

Well, if you like Poe you will probably like Stephen King, Dean Koontz, H!.P!. Lovecraft!. And a horror writer for more of your age would be R!.L!. Stine and Christopher Pike!.

No, you don't spend too much time reading!. Reading is a good thing to do!. Think of it this way, you will be smarter than your friends!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Read Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt!.
It starts just a bit slow for like, 20 pages, but it's awesome!.
It also won the pulitzer, so it's gotta be worth reading, right!?

edit:
Wow!
Can't believe Sheila got it first!.

Try stuff by Vonnegut as well!.
And Childhood's End by Arthur C Clark!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Memoirs of Jacques Casanova!. It may have a tad too much adult content in it, but maybe you can keep it in mind for future reading!. No, reading is more beneficial then video games anyhow, so keep up the good work!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Les Miserables by Victor Hugo is awesome!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Scarlet Pimpernel-Baroness Emmuska OrczyWww@QuestionHome@Com

Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourtWww@QuestionHome@Com

TwilightWww@QuestionHome@Com

One book I would definitely recommend if you have not read it is "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee!. It's too new to be a "classic," but I think is fairly counted as one of the modern classics!.

Another good one is "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand!. I'm working on reading that one right now, and it's very good!. It's very well written, and has some very interesting philosophical and political themes!. Although I will warn you that there are a couple small parts that read a bit like a romance novel, but nothing that goes beyond what is essential to the story!.

Based on what you said you liked, those are the 2 best I can think of!. Do you read any other types of books, or pretty much just limit yourself to those type of books!?

And finally, I don't think it's bad at all that you spend time reading rather than playing video games, but you should keep in mind that you shouldn't spend "too much" doing any single thing!. It's best to mix things up a little bit, and I think it's great that you enjoy reading!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
