It's supposedly a true story - an anonymous diary found by a girl's parents - but, I'm certain that's not the case!. Frankly, I couldn't believe the person who wrote that "diary" was only fifteen years old - it just doesn't seem realistic!. It seemed that her writing was much too mature!.

Some claim that it was "foraged" or that the editor, Beatrice Sparks, wrote it!. There is a lot of evidence to support the fact that Sparks did indeed write it, especially considering the various other "diaries" she's been involved with!.

I don't recall Sparks every officially saying that she was the author, I only remember that she came out as the editor in the late seventies, early eighties!. She very well might have came out and admitted it, though!.

Either way, most people are now fairly certain she is the author, considering she admitted to fabricating some of the details in the "diary!." She claimed the diary was based - loosely - on someone she knew!.

It's considered Fiction now, and right on the copyright page, it says that the book is a work of fiction!. If you check the first link in my sources, and scroll near the bottom and you can find the full disclaimer!.

In any case, it's a good story - one that much of America's youth could learn something from!. I suppose that, technically, whether it's true or not is irrelevant!. Although, I don't think it's fair to mislead people by calling the novel a "true story!."

As for how she died - we all have our guesses, don't we!? It was obviously a drug-related death, and I'd like to think that it was accidental overdose!. But, as this is mostly considered a work of fiction - I guess it really is a matter of your own mentality concerning the novel!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've read it!. Even if it isn't a "real" diary, its a very real situation anyone could find themselves in!. Its so sad!. Saying she continued with that lifestyle, she most likely died by OD!. On the other hand, she could've gone to rehab and cleaned up!. Wishful thinking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The book is not actually a true story!. It originally was published as a non fiction, but after publication, the author, Beatrice Sparks came forward!.
She has also written at least five other "anonymous" diaries!.

The book is really a true diary if a junkie, so all those things really happened, but they never reveal the name of person!. Unfortunately some months later after finishing the journal she died of an overdose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I read the story when I was troubled a teen myself!. It was a true story and very sad!.

I'm sure at the end of the book I read it said she died!. I dont' remember how!.
