Question: In The Long Walk by Stephen King what was the shadow!?

Does anyone know what the shadow was in the long walk by Steven King!? I understood everything else but that!. Obviously in the end he went insane from exhaustion and seeing so much death around him! But what was that shadow the book was not specific enough!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's been a while since I read that story!. From what I remember, I think the shadow might have been the knowledge that other boys were dying and would keep dying, and that anyone could be next!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
