Question: How can I hear voices when writing!?
I am writing a screenplay that will hopefully be a hit in the future, but am having difficulty writing dialog that best fits my characters and their personalities!. I've watched and read interviews of screenwriters and writers; they all say that they hear their characters speak to them!. Do you have any advice on how I could do this or find the right dialog!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

when you put it that way, i sound crazy!!!
well, do you watch movies!? try to imagine them like that, like if they were alredy in the movie!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the answer is all great writers are crazy!. they hear voices and they write them down!. now, if they didn't write them down, they'd be certifiable!. So just be crazy!. talk to yourself!. think about different patterns of speech and different dialects and ways of talking!. think about accents and vocabulary of certain ethnic, socio-economic, rural, urban!. and then think about authentic ways of talking and people who are trying to be a certain way!. somehow, people can just tell!. there's plenty of conversations to be had, but it's the character that adds the flair!. so help your actors a bit, and put some in there!. but don't take it over the top!. it's cheesey!.

so just say it aloud!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't have advice on how to hear voices, but I can advise you to not write a screenplay hoping to make a big hit out of it!. It is possible that it will be a big hit, but more likely that it won't!. That is the way the business works!. If you are really passionate about writing, then write because you want to write, not because you hope to have a big hit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I totally agree with Rae!. You write because you love to write, not because you want a hit!. If you are a natural writer, you will have the character voices in your head already!. Since you don't, you probably don't have that natural writer's thing going on!. You may need to possibly re-think your career!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Honestly, this has never occured to me and I write A LOT!. Have you seen the movie "Stranger than Fiction!?" An IRS tax guy played by Will Ferrell starts hearing an author's voice in his head and the author is describing his every movement!. Kind of like this!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
