The movie was surprisingly faithful to the book!. Bruce Dern did a good job as Tom - loud, blustering, boisterous, narcissistic!. Sam Waterston was perfect as Nick!. The scenery was lush and very evocative of the period and the upper-crust lifestyle that most of us only ever hear about!. They did remember to put in the green light at the end of Daisy's dock, which was a big symbol that got discussed every time I was in a class that read the book!. And the billboard with the optometrist's eyes and glasses, watching - that was in the movie!.

I saw the movie in the theaters when it first came out!. There was a group of us going to the movies, and I was the only one who wanted to see "Gatsby!." Everyone else saw "American Graffiti!."

The movie isn't perfect!. It's been a while since I watched it, but I recall some parts of it getting too draggy!. But on the whole it was gorgeous to watch, very close to the book, and very much a gasp-out-loud moment when you see Gatsby's blood spreading in the pool!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
