Question: Why is it spelled as to-day and to-morrow in the Pride and Prejudice and not today and tomorrow!?

That is due to the earlier stages of English language!. No language is static - each language evolves in its own unique way!. That which was "to-day" then is "today" today!

Spelling is something that has changed over time as words have developed!. "Today" and "tomorrow" used to actually be two words in the Old English meaning "on the day" and "on the morrow!." Over time they became hyphenated words and they stayed that way until the early 20th century, actually, when the hyphens became less and less used!.

English was different then!. If you have a newer edition of the book it should read as today and tomorrow, but I have seen it (with the dashes) in older editions and a few newer editions that the editor thought would keep the old novel feeling!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
