This is a tough one, because in my opinion, he never achieved a level of atonement that came even close to equaling his appalling lack of humanity!. But look towards the end of the story for your answer, to the period when he actually took action to help Sohrab, and just before so you can determine how he (finally!) got to that point!.

I found it difficult to have to walk around inside the head of a person I found to be despicable!. I am a person who always "steps up" and Amir overlooked so many horrors before finally taking any action to help anyone but himself!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
