Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Giles is a landowner, and although a tad eccentric (all of the lawsuits), in general he is respected!. Giles is trying to tell Hawthorne that Hawthorne shouldn't get too big for his britches!. In Puritan communities just as John mentions in Act One every man has a vote in their society!. Therefore, no man should have more power or influence than any other!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
