Here's what I think about Freud and the guys in "A Separate Peace":
1!. Phineas is definitely the Id!. He's rash, and acts on a pleasure impulse only; he was very much about instant gratification!. Example: With sports, Finny either wins or loses, there's no gray area!. also, in the games he invents, the rules always work out so that he wins!.
2!. Gene would then be the superego, the "conscience" of the two!. He was more laid back and always did the right thing!.
3!. The combination of their friendship would be the ego, the balance!. Finny + Gene is equal parts pleasure and conscience!. They balance each other well, and that's why they are such good friends to begin with!. Without Gene, Finny would be completely out of control!. Without Finny, Gene would be a little bit of snob!.

Does that help!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
