Question: Question with the Star Wars series!.!.!.!.
I'm not sure exactly where to begin!. I've read the entire X-Wing Seres, but beyond that I'm sketchy!. I've been told to read the New Jedi Order series; but when I opened the book theres seems to be a good amount of time between the last X-Wing book and the first NJO book!. My question is should I just start the NJO books or read the ones inbetween!?!?!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm a little stunned by all the decent answers you've gotten!. Usually when someone asks this question it's a signal for all the "haters" to try out new material for there comic act !.!.!. you got a couple here but also some really good answers!. There is one book that nobody mentioned yet that is a big help if you read it before the NJO but I'll get to that in a minute!.

I have to commend you on reading the X-Wing books !.!.!. when they first came out I pretty much ignored them because I didn't think I would like them but during a lull in releases I picked one up and was hooked after about 4 pages!. Just a really great written series of books by two of the top authors in the Star Wars EU !.!.!. Stackpoll & Allston!. I hadn't read Starfighters Of Adumar until recently because I could never find it in any stores around me so I finally broke down and got it from Amazon!. I truly wish I had read it long ago because there is a scene in it that hit me like a ton of bricks!. The scene is where Wedge is at Iella's apartment and she asks him to leave!. He started to but then realized something I wish I had realized in my real life relationships!. It was a test to see if the feelings were real!. By not walking out that door Wedge proved that they were real while I stopped at the door then left without a word!. It's so ironic how many little things in books strike a cord inside you!. Anyways, back to your question !.!.!.

Drop that book right now and don't touch it again for a while !.!.!. lol !.!.!. if you start reading it I think you will be totally lost in very short order!. That plus you will read of the death of one of our most beloved characters !.!.!. no I'm not going to tell you which one !.!.!. lol !.!.!.

As others have said you need to read the Thrawn Trilogy next!. The titles are "Heir To The Empire", "Dark Force Rising", and "The Last Command"!. These books are written by, IMHO, the number one author in the Star Wars EU, Timothy Zahn!. IIRC he has written 8 books and they are all beyond great!. The Last Command is one of a very few books that I have read cover to cover in one sitting !.!.!. I just couldn't put it down until it was done!. If you remember the way "Isard's Revenge" started, with that huge battle at the Billbringi Ship Yards !.!.!. that is the final battle that ends The Last Command!. The books over lap a little in that respect!.

If you like the character of Corran Horn then I, Jedi is a must read because it is all about him and his internal struggle with becoming a Jedi!. That book does run in much the same time period that the Jedi Academy Trilogy is set!. If you read that trilogy or the Corellian Trilogy you'll gain one of the missing pieces needed to go forward in the story!. If you read the Hand Of Thrawn Duology, "Specter Of The Past" & "Vision of the Future", you will gain another missing piece!. The last book to read, and the one that I don't think anyone mentioned, is Rogue Planet!. This book is set 29 years before the Battle Of Yavin and stars Obi-Wan & Anakin Skywalker!. Wait, I'm not crazy !.!.!. lol !.!.!. there is a very good reason to read this book before jumping into the NJO because this book introduces a major character that plays a HUGE role in the events of the NJO!. That character is Zonama Sekot, a living planet!. There are also many references in the NJO to Obi-Wan & Anakin's time there!.

After that go for it!. I will warn you that 2 big name characters die in this series so be ready to be ticked off at times while reading the series!.

May The Force Be With You !.!.!.

PS: Don't even bother with the book titled "The Crystal Star" !.!.!. in is not worthy to be read because the story is beyond meaningless !.!.!. it is however the perfect example of what happens when you have a writer that has written mostly Star TREK books write a Star WARS book!. Not a stab and the author but to write for both would be a very hard thing to do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You might want to read a couple of the major series before the NJO books to figure out some new characters and for additional history/back story of the characters that might be a little confusing at the start of the NJO books!.

I would recommend the following books/series in this order:

The Thrawn Trilogy (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command)
The Jedi Academy Trilogy (Jedi Search, Dark Apprentice, Champions of the Force)
The Hand of Thrawn Duology (Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future)

These books figure the most in the later series and will help you understand some of the new characters and changing alliances or philosophies that appear in the later books!.

Other books within this time frame that I really enjoyed, but aren't really necessary to understanding the NJO books are:
Tatooine Ghost
I, Jedi

You might also be interested in reading the Corellian Trilogy, as events there will be referenced in both NJO and LOTF books!.

Most of the stand-alone novels in this period in the timeline won't really be of help in understanding the NJO books, but can be interesting reading!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The X-wing Series takes place from 6 to 12 years after the battle of Yavin!. If you want to stay in Chronological order, the next series would be the Thrawn Trilogy, which takes place 9 years ABY!. Those three books are the Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command!.

The New Jedi Order novels takes place 25 years after the battle of Yavin!.

You can pretty much start at the beginning of any series of books and do OK!. I've read the NJO series and only have one book left in the Legacy of the Force series!.

Here's what I would recommend:

1!. Timothy Zahn's Star Wars trilogy
A!. Heir to the Empire
B!. Dark Force Rising
C!. The Last Command
(and any other Timothy Zahn books)

2!. The New Jedi Order Series
3!. The Legacy of the Force series

They sometimes reference things that have happened in other books, but not to a degree where it will confuse you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it's cause I just went earlier and ate at Sonic, but the thing is since they didn't have the happy hour I wasn't sure if I should get the Route 44!. But I finally just decided it was the best choice for me!. My point is!. Do what you think is best for you!. Don't let anyone else decide your destiny!. Only "you" can choose what's best for you! The power to believe and succeed is more valuable than any precious stone!. Just work on your feelings and believe in yourself and you will become great!

Hope That Helps! Have Fun! And be a super kid no matter what people think of you!Www@QuestionHome@Com
