Question: Do you think Stephenie Meyer's writing style is bad, or just different!?
Sorry for another Twilight-related question!. I like the books, but I'm just as annoyed as you are by the bombardment of questions!.

PERSONALLY, for me, her style is very easy to interpret & understand!. She makes me feel like I'm actually in the book!. Her writing seems different to me than other writers, but I don't necessarily find it "bad", as some see it!.

I'm not an expert on writing, but why exactly do people say she's not a great writer!? I fail to see anything unprofessional about her technique, just that's it's different!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

She isnt a "bad" writer, she just writes very basically and like she doesnt have alot of experience, which she doesnt!. But she gets her point across and it's very enjoyable!.
I liked the series as much as anyone else did, but the problem is that when you compare her writing next to other authors, it can seem a bit juvenile, or underdeveloped!.
Thats really the problem, because right now, SM is a pop star to alot of young people who havent really read alot of other work that is by truly gifted authors who may be beyond their comprehension level right now!.
That pop star status bugs some people and so I guess they are taking it out on SM's writing style!.

EDIT: I feel like I didnt explain something clearly!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.you have to understand that there is a whole world out there of amazingly talented authors who have this ability to tap into subjects beautifuly and have this artful articulation of insanely subtle or complicated issues about the human condition, existential crises, love, etc!. So when you read someone as talented as!.!.!.!.Tolstoy for example, and then you read Stephenie Meyer, its sort of laughable, no offense Stephenie, but its not even in the same category!. So its funny when you have people say "shes the greatest author, ever!"!. It makes me smile that some people live in a world so simple!. Must be nice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with gal named sue about the fact that she's not really 'bad', per-say, but to me she writes like she woke up one morning and said "Hmmm, I'm bored, I think I'll write a book today!."
She doesn't grab the reader and hold their attention (well, mine anyway) Her writing sounds like she never even opened a thesaurus, and, in turn, makes her sound extremely inexperienced!.
She's very repetitive and drones on and on, especially with New Moon!. But, as stated above, she was smart enough to write it in the first person, so the reader thinks they're connecting with the characters to mask her lack of skill!.

There is a difference between poor style and unique style!. Meyer's writing simply is not good!. But she was clever enough to pass it off by writing the books in first person!. That makes it easier to accept her prose because you think of it as Bella's thoughts!. I really don't care to analyze her writing!.!.!. I'll just say it's simplistic, unpolished, repetitive, and boring!. By that I mean the writing itself is boring, I'm not talking about the story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I half agree with you, cause I do think that her writing is easily understood, but on the other hand, that's what makes it not so good!.!.!? haha I hope that at least KIND OF made sense!. Maybe its also because the books are for kids also so she can't really write it in another way because kids might not be able to comprehend!.

I feel that she's a writer, not a bad one, but not a great one, definitely not one of my favorites!. To me, she's just another young adult author!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it's whatever!.
she's pretty much done after bd!.

as far as style goes, she tries too hard in my opinion!.
and she dipicts highschool life horribly!. it's all so boring!. everything revolves around edward!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Her style is very abstinent!. She doesn't give away what the readers want to happen so easily!. She makes you wait and she makes you read!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with you!. She's an amazing writer who is able to write about complicated things in a way that her readers can easily understand!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i agree with you!. i feel like im there and acctually watching the people have a conversation!. he style seems so natural!. i love her style :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

i really like writers like her!. whenever i read her books they seem more personable!. i also love how long they are! they could be longer though^_^Www@QuestionHome@Com

She's not the greatest!. Too florid and fussy, like a bad Victorian novel!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like her writing!.
I just dont like her ideas for Breaking Dawn!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i like her writing style Www@QuestionHome@Com

i like stephanie meyers writing i just hate it through bella's eyes shes nothing but a stupid whinny bi tchWww@QuestionHome@Com

it's not that her writing is simple!. it's that it's so whiny and repetitive, perhaps because it's narrated from bella's point of view!. she's just such a monumentally awful character creater!.

look at harper lee's to kill a mockingbird!. that was written from the perspective of scout, a six year old, simple and easy to understand, and yet it was so beautifully written! scout had more brains than bella, despite being a third of her age, and you wanted to read more and more of her exploits with jem and dill!.

look at margaret mitchell's gone with the wind!. it was so easy to read, but the way it was written made you want to keep on going!. and scarlett o'hara was the epitome of a greatly characterized heroine!. she had her faults, yes, and lots of them too, but you couldn't help but admire her for her raw strength of character!. bella, conversely, cannot be admired at all, for she is weak and whiny!.

it's just so repetitive!. we get that edward's gorgeous! you don't need to tell us a thousand times!

and bella just makes you lose patience with the whole thing!. even if she's trying to make the book seem like a real teenager's narrating, bella's so shallow that all she can talk about is her lack of self-esteem and how hot edward is!. couldn't s!.m!. have made a more independent heroine, with, possibly, a BRAIN!?!!?

to summarize, s!.m!.'s writing is
a!. repetitive
b!. almost completely ruined because of bella!. but that's her fault too!.

I think it's bad!.

She writes like a teenager!. Her characters talk like teenagers (although I suppose that's understandable since they ARE teenagers, lol)!. Her writing is too!.!.!. modern for my taste!. I prefer classic authors like Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Jane Austen, the Brontes, Oscar Wilde, etc!. Next to those authors, Smeyer's work is laughable (no offense to anyone who likes her)!. She looks juvenile!. I don't like Smeyer's prose because it sounds too "modern" (meaning, she uses "Um", "like", and similar words in her writing)!. Her writing reminds me of something a teenager would write!. It's very basic and not at all hard to understand (which drives me nuts)!. I just don't like it; it sounds too much like modern teenage speech and isn't complex enough for my liking (I know it's a book about a modern teenage girl, but it still bugs me)!. Her writing seems very unprofessional and amateur to me!.

She has comma splices, run on sentences, sentence fragments, and grammatical errors ALL OVER in her writing too!. Her sentence structure is also a little shaky on some parts!. Reading Twilight is torture for me because of all the errors and mistakes!. Where was her editor!?!

The woman needs to learn what a thesaurus is!. She uses the same adjectives all the time!. In Twilight, she uses the exact same sentence about Edward's "smoldering eyes" EIGHT TIMES!. And how many times does she use the words "marble", "beautiful", "amber", "rock", etc!? Her writing is so repetitive to me!. I got SO sick of reading of the endless descriptions of Edward's gorgeousness!. Blegh!.

So, there you go!. The reason I think her writing is awful is because there are so many grammatical errors and because I dislike the "modern" tone it has (but that's probably because I'm such a classic nut)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
