Question: Good books for a freshman!?
I am going into high school next year!. There is no reading program and you only have to read if you want to for your leisure!. (and school work of course!.!.!.) So what are some good books for a teenager of my age!? Books about popular girls are really getting on my nerves!. I recently read these series: The Clique, Private, Secrets of my Hollywood Life, and Pretty Little Devils!. So I am kind of burned out on books about pretty popular girls!. I have also already read Harry Potter (WHICH IS AMAZING!!! :]) and Series of Unfortunate Events!. Anyone heard of any other really good books!? Some that prefferably aren't about popular girls!. (Although if it is really really good I won't mind a popular girl book!.)
Thanks in advance!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Books by Terry Pratchett, such as The Amazing Maurice and his Educated rodents, Wee Free Men and three sequels (Hat Full of Sky and Wintersmith) or his Johnny Maxwell series!.

Annie Rice books if you like Vampires!.

A book called The Sight and it's sequel Fell by David Clemment Davis!.

I'll offer some suggestions from the genres that I enjoyed most at your age!.!.!.

For historical fiction (most of these also contain romance that is not overbearing but that is genuine):
-Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery (this series has eight books overall, the first one being Anne of Green Gables)!. This series takes place in the early 1900s, and is about a hot-headed, stubborn orphan girl who finds a way of fitting into the little town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island!. As the series progresses, the main character (Anne) grows up, marries, etc!.!.!.
-Anything by Jane Austen, such as Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Persuasion, etc!.!.!.Many of her books are about women of the 1800s and their attempts at fitting into society, finding romance/love, etc!.!.!.
-Little Women by Louisa May Alcott - This is about four sisters in the 1860s, and it portrays how the sisters grow up, find romance/love, etc!.!.!.

For fantasy/fiction:
-The Hobbit by J!.R!.R!. Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings trilogy by Tolkien!. Tolkien's books are filled with creativity, wonderful and imaginative characters, intelligence, and excellent writing!. I read The Hobbit when I was a young teen, and it has since then been one of my favorite books!. If you're looking for a book with creative characters, magical and unique aspects, and adventure after adventure, then do consider reading The Hobbit!.
-The Chronicles of Narnia by C!.S!. Lewis - These may be written technically for children, but even adults can enjoy this series; this series is a very fun and magical read!. And the underlying messages in these books are very profound and intelligent!.
-When I was a little younger I enjoyed Tamora Pierce's fantasy books/series!. Her books are written for young adults, so that should be right up your alley!. My favorite series of hers was always Circle of Magic, which contains four books, each one revolving around a kid with a special power!. Her series called The Song of the Lioness is also good; it's about a girl named Alanna trying to become a knight!.

For something a little more classic, perhaps:
-Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift - This is about a sailor/captain of a ship who, throughout the book, ends up in four different, interesting lands - one of the lands is inhabited by tiny people, one is inhabited by giants, one is inhabited by talking horses, and one of the lands is a floating island!.!.!.
-To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
-Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

The amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud(The first book of the Bartimaeus trilogy) is confusing at first but if a great book about a different kind of magic than whats normally in books!. I loved it soo much it has hilarious sarcastic humor if you like that kind of thing! Official description:
Nathaniel is a young magician’s apprentice, taking his first lessons in the arts of magic!. But when a devious hotshot wizard named Simon Lovelace ruthlessly humiliates Nathaniel in front of everyone he knows, Nathaniel decides to kick up his education a few notches and show Lovelace who’s boss!. With revenge on his mind, he masters one of the toughest spells of all: summoning the all-powerful djinni, Bartimaeus!. But summoning Bartimaeus and controlling him are two different things entirely, and when Nathaniel sends the djinni out to steal the powerful Amulet of Samarkand, Nathaniel finds himself caught up in a whirlwind of magical espionage, murder, blackmail, and revolt!. Set in a modern-day London spiced with magicians and mayhem, this extraordinary, funny, pitch-perfect thriller will dazzle the myriad fans of Artemis Fowl and the His Dark Materials trilogy!.

Perfect by Natasha friend, and its a more sad down to earth quick book about a bulimic girl, its very good!. Same with lush, also by Natasha friend, its about a girl who’s dad drinks, and she has to go through all that!. All of Natasha Friends books are good and down to earth and relatively quick, they arent like all the popular girls books, they are serious and interesting, they describe ways that real people live, but are still fiction!.
Turnabout by Margret Peterson Haddix is about these ladies that are really old and are part of a testing process for a drug that will reverse their age, so every year on their birthdays they grow a year younger and they are 16 now and they need to have a plan for when they grow young!.

The Uglies by Scott Westerfield is really good, it takes place in the future when in your youth you are considered ugly and when you turn 16 you are given surgery that makes you "pretty"!. The main character has to choose between the surgery or running away!. Its interesting, and good!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
