Question: What is the great American novel between these two: Moby-Dick or Huck Finn!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
My choice would be Moby Dick, but Huck Finn is a heckuva book as well!.

Huck is much more literal, but the symbolism of the Whale is an enduring American metaphor that can be applied to it's contemporary meaning of manifest destinty or a more modern one of economic imperialism!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Definitely Huck Finn!. I just couldn't get into Moby-Dick (I know, shame on me)!. Besides, Huck Finn deals with an important issue: slavery!. If we're choosing by importance, I think slavery beats out whales (although I do like whales)!.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is an amazing work of literature!. To put it simply, I just don't think Moby-Dick is as good!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Huck Finn - The character is a icon (along with his friend Tom Sawyer)!. This is beyond any doubt!.

Mark Twain books (and other American literature books) are available for free reading in some public internet libraries such as

Huck Finn

I think the whole slavery issue defines America more than a whale hunt!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that The Grapes Of Wrath is actually considered the great American novel next to Gone With the Wind!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
