ex!. shot heard round the world so wouldnt (you look like hell) be a hyperbole!?!?!? Www@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I would say that "You look like hell" could very well be a hyperbole!. As someone else said, it does sort of resemble a simile, mostly because it says that the subject (you) looks "like" something else!. If you're having to make up that hyperbole, then perhaps you could word it something like: "You look like you've been through Hell" (as the person before me said)!. With that wording, it isn't a direct comparison that looks as much like a simile, but it still is an exaggeration!. But, if you're having to identify that phrase ("You look like hell"), then I would certainly say that your guess of hyperbole is correct!. (And although in some ways it looks like it could be a simile, I definitely see this more as a hyperbole than a simile - as a simile, it really wouldn't make sense to make the comparison that a person looks like hell, because I don't believe that a person could actually look like a fiery pit!.!.!.)!. Best wishes!Www@QuestionHome@Com Yes, a deliberately overdone comparison!. (alternate possibility: the expression has contracted from "it looks like you've been through hell") "OMG!!! Twilight is the best book ever!!!!" Is hyperbolic, to put it mildly, intended or not!.Www@QuestionHome@Com no saying something like: why did you look at that girlfriend like that you must be cheating on me" to ur bf now that would be a hyperboleWww@QuestionHome@Com sure!. i guess!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I'd say it is simile!.Www@QuestionHome@Com |
