Question: Ending for my story!? I'm writing a short story about
a teen who gets lost in the African savannah and key things happen like he lights fires, finds and befriends a wild dog, and battles a sandstorm and hyenas!. I already know the climax but I am stuck with the ending!.

1!. Kid is sleeping in broken down car and it starts raining and he and his dog drink and they're all happy

2!. Small plane or heli or truck comes and finds the kid but it's sad cuz he leaves the dog behind
That is, if the dog doesn't already die before that!.

Feel free to add your own parts or key items or ending!. Does the kid find a gun!? Does he hunt!? Does the dog die!? Does the kid die!? There's many ways I could go at this point!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
first ending is pretty run of the mill "they lived happily ever after"
second ending is better, leave the dog behind, maybe sequel he goes looking for dog to see if it remembers him

no gun, guns dont just lie around on the savvanah waiting for lost boys
yes hunting, you have to hunt to survive, make it like rustic, spears etc, realistically thats all he could have
killing either character is probably a no, because then you lose the interaction, unless you kill the kid or both at the very end, which would be pretty original, specially if the helicopter just finds them moments after

btw, there are no sandstorms (at least of any decent size) in the savannah, b/c savannahs are grassy, not sandy!. instead, battles a fire!?maybe one that got out of control that he lit!? battles a flood!?

EDIT: if it was in the desert, there wouldnt be wild dogs and hyenas!. stay with the savannah its easier to work details in!. finding a pistol in a jeep would not yield nearly enough shots to be effective eitherWww@QuestionHome@Com

A Family of elephants befriends the kid and his dog !. For two days he stays with this family of elepahnts who guide him to a wild life refuge camp where he meets up with some other people who reunte him with his family!. And he keeps the dog!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A rich couple on Safari find the child and the dog and take them both home!.

A sequel would be the difficulties of the chid and dog adjusting to life as we know it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The name would really depend on the little details!. Once you have it all figured out, ask again!.
Here is what i would do at this point:

the teen (i will call him rashkib) has been wandering for days: has seen no food, and little more water!. He has been followed by a wild dog, for quite a while and his certain that said dog is simply waiting to finish him off!. He falls to the desert floor, ready to give up when the dog comes over to him and stands up - yes, on his hind feet!. Rashkib believes himself to be hallucinating, so he doesnt allow himself to feel alarmed!. The dog starts to grow, and as he does, he also begins to change shape!. Rashkib finds it hard to look at the dog, but after all the dog is standing directly in front of the sun, or is he!? As Rashib watches, the dog seemingly finished changing, leans over the boy and speaks!. Rashkib recognizes the lost dialect that he had heard spoken to him by that crazy african priest, prior to becoming lost!. "(insert strange african sounding words here)", Rashkib doesnt competely understand the words being spoken, but his body reacts to them all the same!. He begins to feel lighter, and his mouth doesnt feel quite as parched;his limbs do not ache, his skin and lips heel from their cracking, and his stomach eases from the awful pinching feeling he had become almost a custom to!. As his body heals, Rashkib looks up at the dog creature and their eyes meet!. The wild dog leans over and stares into his eyes, and rashkib feels them begin to close, and blessed sleep overtakes his body!.
Rahkib awakes to the sound of beating drums, and sits up quickly, There in front of him, around 100 African natives come bearing down on him!. He looks around wondering if they were friend or foe!. Suddenly he hears his name being called, and there are his parents running to meet him, falling on him, hugging him, calling his name again and again!. They lift him up together and carry him to the awaiting carts where he is carried by members of the search party back to the village!.
At nights, whenever Rashkib hears the sound of wild dogs howling, he thinks of his loyal companion in the desert; and sometimes, accompanying these howls are strange old african words that soothe him and make him feel that all will be right in the world!.

I know its kinda sci-fi, but its what i like best!. Feel free to take bits and pieces if you find some stuff you like, or whatever!. Good Luck - hey, if nothing else maybe this will get your creative juices going!.!.lolWww@QuestionHome@Com
