Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Well, there are several books based in Japan and Korea!.
These are some of the ones I've read:
Shogun by James Clavell
Gai-Jin : A Novel of Japan by same author

There is a series by Laura Roh Rowland called the Sano Ichiro Series!.
They are thrillers in old Japan (17th century Edo)!.

The Samurai's Tale by Erik Christian Haugaard

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

The Street of a Thousand Blossoms by Gail Tsukiyama

Korea:

Korea Strait by David Poyer

Red Queen by Margaret Drabble

Corpse in the Koryo by James ChurchWww@QuestionHome@Com

Why not actually consider reading Japanese or Korean authors!? Japan certainly has a really quite remarkable literary history dating back thousands of years!. However, considering that I gather you are seeking mostly contemporary works, I would suggest the works of Haruki Murakami, beginning with A Wild Sheep Chase!. Murakami's stories essentially run a wide gamut of genre-styles, certainly including the four you mentioned, as well as engaging in political and social chaos, with the occasional dose of realistic science-fiction!. He is a terrific writer and, if you enjoy the first one, there are plenty more books by him to look forward to!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Please read Moribito : The Guardian of the Spirit!.
It is a great drama, action, and romance book!. I do believe it is actully a series!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The only one I've read is Color of the Sea by john Hamamura!. But it takes place mainly in the US!.

Forgot: I read Shogun once as well!. Not sure if that's what you're looking for!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
