Big Brother was the personification of both the government, and the leader of the country!. He had the name Big Brother because like an older brother, he took it upon himself (so he said) to watch out for the common man!. The government tried to perpetuate the belief that there was a benevolent person watching out and watching over everyone else!. To call the government Big Brother was to put a seemingly human face on a faceless government!.

The Two Minute Hate was a time when everyone could focus their anger and resentment upon a person or organization whom the government singled out as being to blame for everything that was going wrong!. By giving everyone a scapegoat, it could channel away the anger that might otherwise give rise to revolution!.

As a final note, you might be interested to know that a German author by the name of Gyorgy Dalos wrote a book called "1985 - Sequel to George Orwell's 1984"!. I've read through it, and it's not bad!. This sequel to "1984" is written in the format of a "historical report"!. The premise is that the regime of Big Brother is finally defeated by one of the superpowers that it was fighting!. The "report" is written 2035!. And, like Orwell's book, it is deeply pessimistic about government and humanity in general!.

Big Brother was the name given to the leader of the revolution!. He is closer to an image!. Later on in the book Winston asks an official if Big Brother exists and if he will die!. The official tells him that Big Brother exists but will never die!. So Big Bother is closer to an image than a human!. His name is supposed to sound benevolent!.
Two Minutes Hate is a time spent hating Goldstein the leader of the rebels!. If you do not participate you will be reported!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The book 1984 is meant as a rejection of the governments increasing quest to control our lives!. The "big Brother" refers to the governement and the book uses it to exhibt, ecessively, what would happen if the governemnt is allowed to control our lives and also if we were to believe all we were told is "good" for us!.

The Two Minutes of Hate would probably be best described as liberals!. Those that are against the governments or "big Brothers" quest to take over our lives and the only way to keep those from believe is to deem them as the bad ones, etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Big Brother is a term now used to refer the government!. Such as if you say 'big brother is watching'!. It means, be careful of what you do because the government might find out and you might get in trouble!. I do not know what the Two Minutes of Hate are!. Hope this helps some!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
