I personally think it has something to do with bella making the choice of become a vampire,
they are both to do with her becoming one, the white peice and the reason why she wants to become one is the immortality, to be able to live with edward for eternity, also the white marble, is what she will become,

whereas there is also another part of becoming a vampire, the downside, the bloodthirsting, which symbolises the red peice!.!.

also the chess board could be like a battle!? 2 sides going head to head in a war (like the game chess, except its not a war!.!. its a game) maybe it stands for the cullens verse the volturi!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

hey

I finished Breaking Dawn a couple days ago, so this answer has SPOILERS!!!!!!!

The white chess piece is the Queen, and it symbolizes Bella!. The red chess piece symbolizes Renesmee!. Yes, I said Renesmee!. Because it is chess, a battle, it is talking about the battle between Bella and Renesmee when Bella is pregnant with her!. Bella is white because she is a human at the time!. Renesmee is red not only because she is a half vampire, but because when she is born, she is covered in Bella's blood!.

Breaking Dawn RULES!!!! Www@QuestionHome@Com

the white queen is bella, because she is changed in this book, and she becomes all white and pale, and also she is better than when she was human, so it is like she was upgraded to a queen from like, a lesser chess piece!.
the red pawn, is im guessing her half vampire, half human daughter, renesmee, because she is small and young, hence further away, and she has blood running through her veins, unlike bella now, so she is red!.
and its a chessboard because it is war against the volturi!. though where edward and jacob and the rest of the cullens are in this equation i do not know!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is my theory:

The Queen piece represents the new vampire Bella, strong, white, pale and cold!. The red pawn represents the old human Bella, red for blood, weak, vulnerable!.

This is only my theory, and it may sound bullsh*t, but it never hurt to guess once in a while!. We'll just have to wait until Steph explains it all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

bella was the white qween, in reference to her being a cold white vampire!. renesme was the little red pawn, be young and warm with blood, yet the two pieces are related, in the sense of chess and family!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I have a theory!. The red pawn in the back represents Bella as a human cuz she turns red and blushes!. And the white pawn in the front represents Bella as a vampire, strong, pale, and durable!.

Hope I helped!Www@QuestionHome@Com
