Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
"For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "A Farewell to Arms" would be the best novels, I think!.

The best piece by him I've ever read was a two page article called "A story from Spain" from 1939, reprinted in "Lilliput goes to war", 1985!.
Simple, direct, moving!.

"The Garden of Eden" is possibly my favorite Hemingway novel (though I loved "The Sun also Rises!." TGoE is bizarre and fascinating, moving and sensuous!. I think it makes for a very interesting read!.

And I found it a lot less tedious than the 400-page "For Whom the Bell Tolls!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

farewell to arms!. my english teacher said that the title always reminds him of parting with body parts!. but it is loosely based on the partlly romantic, parly sexual relationship he had with a nurse during the war!. its his most famous book i would say!. you should give it a try!.
