It means that people of a lower class in society (servants) began to think they deserved or could possibly be offered the opportunities of the upper class people - referred to in the sentence as 'others'!. It could refer to opportunities for education, work, travel or even just being allowed to interact with other people on an equal footing!.

'Got all sorts of ideas' as a phrase is used usually by persons belonging to the so-called upper classes, and implies that these ideas are inappropriate for the servants to have because of their lower status!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It sounds OK to me except I would take out the word "then" and just make it and when they realized !.!.!. The only thing is that a teacher might think "all sorts of ideas" is a vague and ask you to elaborate!. I would ask you to!. Pax-CWww@QuestionHome@Com

The division between servants and masters!. I should think that 'Servants got all sorts of ideas' means that they thought about rising up against their masters, as happened in the French Revolution!.
