Sometimes!. If the book I'm looking at is one that I know hardly anything about, and one that I'm kind of having trouble deciding if I want to buy it or not, then I'll look at the reviews!. I usually take a look at a few reviews that praise the book, and a few that trash it!. That way I can get a feel for both the positive and negative about the book; I also read more negative reviews than positive ones - I figure that if the things mentioned in the negative reviews are things I wouldn't care about, then I should buy the book (if it's not too expensive)!.

If the book I'm looking at is one that was recommended by a good friend, one that I know quite a bit about, one that I've already read part or all of before (in school, the bookstore, library, whatever), or a book that is part of a series or by an author that I love, then I don't bother reading reviews unless one or two happen to catch my eye!.

I do pay attention to them in a way - I usually look at the ratio of good reviews vs!. bad reviews!. If a book has fewer 4- and 5-star ratings than 3's, 2's, and 1's, I probably won't buy it!. Though if the book is nonfiction, I always read the negative reviews first!. Buying a nonfiction book with a lot of negative reviews can be dangerous if you're doing it for classes or just to inform yourself on a topic!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I try to avoid reviews - especially reviews from the public - since they are more likely to include spoilers!. I have had more than a few books ruined for me by going through reviews at Amazon, so I now I just avoid them completely!.

Sometimes, however, I will read what other people had to say AFTER I have finished the book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it's a book by an author I love, I usually don't even look at the reviews!.

Not really, it depends on people tastes!. Many times ive gone against bad reviews and loved the books, but also ive agreed with them!. You cant really be sure!. A lot of the time people are mean on there i noticed though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No cuz I've seen a book get great reviews when I thought it sucked ***!. I have my own taste and I decide according to the summary or the preface or word of mouth whether a book is worth reading!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
