If you want to give your brain a good workout, read "The Fountainhead" or "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand (a word of warning, though - at 1,164 pages, Atlas Shrugged is one of the longest books ever written)!.
If you just want an awesome, incredibly well written story, read "Kite Runner" or "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini!.
If you want something hilarious and enlightening, "Catch 22" by Joseph Heller!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

It all depends on what you like!. I'm not sure what genres you like (I read everything but romance, but I lean more towards fantasy/sci fi)!. You should really post some categories of books you like, and maybe even some of your favorites so that people will be able to recommend things you'd actually like!.

If you're okay with long books or fantasy/fiction, I'd recommend Jonathan Strange and Mr!. Norrel!. I really love Jean Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear!. It was required reading for my anthropology class, and although it is fiction, my teacher said it was well researched, not to mention, it was a great story! (read the plot synopsis on amazon!.com)

I'd also recommend:

Persepolis (it's a graphic novel, but I loved it)!.
Anything by Walter Dean Myers is usually pretty good!.
Any collection of short stories by T!. Coraghessen Boyle!.
The Raging Quiet (it's Young Adult fiction, but really good!)
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
