Question: In New Moon *spoiler* when Edward leaves Bella, was the reader supposed to know his good intentions!?
when i read the part where Edward leaves Bella in New Moon, i realized that he did it for the good of Bella!. i knew he wanted to make her life easier and better, and therefore he removed himself!.
but did the book indicate the real reason for his leaving in the beginning!? or did i pick this up by myself!?
another way to answer this is, did you believe Edward's lie or not!? did you believe that Edward was really leaving becase he was over Bella!? or did you know, like me, that he was leaving to make her life easier!?
the point of this question - i can't remember if it was told or not in the beginning!. although Bella was fooled and thought Edward was over her, was the reader supposed to believe that too!? is there supposed to be dramatic irony!?
(dramatic irony - when the reader has a greater knowledge than the characters) in this case, we would know Edward's real reason of leaving when Bella did not!.

It is really kind of obvious!. She almost gets killed by his brother and a few days later he leaves!. I didn't believe his lie at all- I was surprised Bella did!.
It wasn't told in the beginning of the story!. My friend called Edward a b*tch until the end of the book when she finally realized he left for her own good!.
Some people realize it, that he left for her, but other people don't realize it until the end of the book!. Common Sense really!. I noticed how much it irritates me when I find some Twilighters that have no common sense!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
I think the whole point of him leaving her without any reason was to make the reader think, and to make them go over Bella and Edward's relationship!. I think she wanted people to wonder about what would happen, and think about everything in the entire series!. I think she wanted readers to have theories, but she didn't want to give away enough to let them know exactly what was going to happen!.

i knew the whole time the reason he left!. mainly because i read the book summary on wikipedia before i actually read the book itself so i knew edward was going to eventually try to kill himself and then come back the whole time!.
but even if i hadn't known beforehand i still would have known!. stephenie's writing is pretty predictable and obvious so i really think she might have meant for the reader to know the whole time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
yea i thought you were supposed to know that he was doing it for he sake and that he still loved her
i noticed this when they had the kiss that bella said was like before james came!. i thought that made it a dead giveaway that edward did it for the better
so i think the readers were supposed to pick up on that

I don't think it tells you in the book whether we were or not but i think it was obvious because he said to her that she wasn't good for him and he wasn't good for her, but it doesn't say that she wasn't good *enough* for him, meaning she just kind of assumed that was what he meant!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
