Some agents do get fed up with that end of the publishing world, but the problem is that the agent process has become like the new publishing business! It is just as hard to get an agent nowadays as it is to find a publisher who will accept your manuscript!.

But !.!.!. to your question!. An agent usually will have at least a degree in English and something related to the moneymaking aspect of the publishing business, so a business degree of some sort!. Some have worked for magazines or book publishers!. It really just depends!. Your character should have a really believable story to want to quit--s/he may be accepting a very substantial cut in pay to become an agent!. Perhaps s/he saw some beautiful talent get rejected by another editor and tossed in the garbage (although most publishers recycle manuscripts now), and wanted to help people so they could get their work read by publishing companies!. There are a number of ways you can make your story believable and interesting, as well as make it fit into the story well!. Look up some agents' websites and see what the head of the agency has as a story, and then come up with something similar!. Good luck on your story!Www@QuestionHome@Com
