I'm writing a Halloween story about 3 preteens who go trick-or-treating!. The problem is I don't know where!. I want it to be scary, but not THAT scary!.!.!.for ages 9-14 maybe!? Um!.!.!.I also don't know about a title!. Can you help me!? Oh and names too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1) 9-14 is a BIG age range for a book, because if you write it for younger people the 13 and 14 year olds wouldn't read it, but if you gear it towards older people the 9 and 10 year olds wouldn't read it!. Try 9 to 11 year olds, that's a little more reasonable!.

2) How about just a normal neighborhood in an average town for location!.

3) As for a title, don't name your book until after it's written, and you've re-read it!. That way when you pick a title, it goes perfectly, and makes sense to the reader, but don't pick an obvious give-away title!.

4) For names, I just look through baby name websites!. Baby names world is the best one, in my opinion!. As is baby name genie!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First of all the origins "Halloween originated in the British Isles out of the Pagan Celtic celebration of Samhain!. On this day, it was believed that spirits rose from the dead and mingled with the living!. The Celts left food at their doors to lure good spirits and wore masks to scare off the evil ones!. Children being children since time immortal used to profit to get up the mischief and eat the food, blaming the evil spirits for everything!"
For your tittle I propose "SAMHAIN"
AS for the location, why not use your own home block as you kow it so well and can describe shortcuts and the people with place names and people's names changed of course!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Just write your story!. Set it in some non descript mid-western town (since everyone has the false impression that the mid-west is the most uneducated area) and don't worry about names!. Just pic some out of the hat for now!. As your story develops, the kids will develop names that just seem to work and the story itself will tell you the title as you go along!. Thats the way I have done it wth the last 3 books I hve written!. Its worked for me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree a title shouldn't be fully decided on until the story is complete!. if you use "trick or treat" as the title, you could be in heavy competition with other books that may share that name!. without knowing a little more about the story it would be difficult to offer alternate titles in its place!. But my interest is piqued!. Instantly I want to know what happens when they go trick or treating!. What is is that makes their experience scary!? is there a creepy old house on their street!? Maybe an old lady who doesn't like kids!? I would love to know more, so i could offer you better advice on how to proceed!. But yes, write the story first, the title will reveal itself to you later!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

if you let people on here help you too much, it becomes less of your own!. I think a title having to do with pumpkins would be appropriate, but use what I use for finding names!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
