Should I open it up with "A common saying is sex sells!. It's true!." But that's more like my thesis statement!. Can anyone help me out!? I already have the body of the essay outlined and ready to go, I'm just stuck on how to get this into good shape!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
If you have your thesis and body outline, you are in good shape!. After all, that's the meat of your essay!.

For the introduction, you are going to put your thesis (and thus your entire essay) in a context, much the way a jeweler puts a diamond into a setting to make a diamond ring!. You don't repeat in your intro what's going to be in your essay (the diamond's setting isn't made of diamond), but you hold it up for readers the way a setting does a stone!.

You need only a couple of sentences to do that:
!.
**You need to identify your general topic, in this case, advertising!.

**You need to "define" any terms you'll be using that readers may now know!.

**You'll need to finish up with your thesis statement!.

If you can think of a really intriguing opening sentence that will make readers WANT to read, that's great!. If not, no big deal!. (After all, you are writing an assignment and the person who made the assignment has to read the essay, right!?)

Here are some questions to help you get started putting that thesis in context: What is advertising!? What is it supposed to do!?

Hope that helps!.

First off, when you write an essay with a thesis statement, you are trying to prove something!. So try to be definitive!. Like: "It is true: Sex sells"!.
Then your introduction should provide a peak into your arguments!. Look at each paragraph, and take the statement sentence (the one that tells readers what the paragraph is about) and reiterated it into your intro!.
So it would be something like this:
" It is true: Sex sells!. This is proven by provocative advertisements, argument number two, and argument number three!.!.!. yadda yadda!."
Good luck! The intro and conclusion were ALWAYS the hardest parts for me to write!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You could start with:
'Millions of print ads are created each day!. What makes each different!? The object they are advertising!. And even then, they might not be so diverse!. '
Then you could go on with the sex sells line and tie it in with the rest of the essay!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
