What does "snivellus", the nickname given to Snape mean!? Where did they get it from!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think it's 'cuz sniveling is like crying, and serverus is, well, Snape's name, so it came down to, "Snivellus"Www@QuestionHome@Com

it was probably taken from the word "snivel", meaning to whine, be weak, or have a runny nose!. snape was said many times to have a very prominent hooked nose which was greasy!. james and sirius viewed snape as being weak and whiney, so they mixed snivel with snape's first name, severus to come up with snivellusWww@QuestionHome@Com

It comes from the word "snivel", and is a pun on Snape's first name, Severus!.

The word "snivel" means a) to whine or complain, and b) to sniffle or have a runny nose!. For example, a snotty, obnoxious kid might be called "a snivelling brat!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

Severus was always greasy and James and his friends always made fun of his "abnormally large nose" (Prisoner of Azkaban) so they gave him the nickname of Snivellus because of his large, greasy nose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Cross between Snivel and Severus!.
