Question: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince!? Don't get the part where Dumbledore explains prophecy and horcruxes!?
Okay, so i do get that there are 7 horcruxes, most of them are destroyed!. but i still don't get why Voldemort dissappeared when he tried to kill Harry!. ANd it also said, or Dumbledore said, that the prophecy does not matter, or is not real i think, with or with out the prophecy, harry was bound to kill voldemort!. But he wanted to kill Voldemort because of the murders he attempted!. But didn't he murder lily and james BECAUSE of the prophecy to get to Harry!. And i also don't get the part where Voldemort gave Harry powers!. How can Voldemort give Harry powers and why did he vanish if he still had horcruxes!?

this is confusing sorry but thanks for explainingWww@QuestionHome@Com

Okay, it's kind of confusing!.

When Harry gave himself up to Voldemort and was 'killed' the only part of him that was killed, was the part that was Voldemort's horcrux!. Neville killed Nagaini, so now Voldemort had no other horcruxes!. Harry revived, and then killed voldemort!. also, by giving himself up, Harry protected the whole world, as his mother had protected him!.

Voldemort killed Harry's parents beacause he wanted to destroy anyone that could kill him!. The prophecy just told him who would be more powerful!.

If Voldemort hadn't known of the prophecy, he would of continued on a killing spree!.

Voldemort was not the greatest wizard!. He was powerful, but no the greatest!. He THOUGHT he was the greatest!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well it turns out in book 7 that dumbledore was crazy and voldermorte was George bush in disguise!. and harry is bi-curious!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He only heard part of the prophecy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

cant help sorryWww@QuestionHome@Com

okay
you have got to finish the sixth book and read the seventh its gonna be really hard for anyone to explain it without giving BIG BIG BIG plot points away!. THe reason he dissapeared was becuase the curse backfired it practically destroyed him because even tho he had seven pieces to his soul it also meant that his remaning soul ( the one inside him) was very very weak!. so it practically destroyed him!. The only reason the prophecy has any significance what so ever is because voldemort chose to believe there fore marking harry as his equal and domming himself in the end!. If he hadnt harry would be a totaly normal boy like ohh nevill !. the part about the powers being transfered cant be explained until you read the 7th book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you haven't read Deathly Hallows, read this:

Voldemort did not vanish because the Hallows bound him to Earth; he could not die, but he COULD became something close to dying!. He gave Harry the power of Lily's protection; because Lily died in sacrifice for Harry, the protection kept Harry somewhat safe!. Voldemort didn't have to kill Lily, but he did; and that was his foolish mistake because she begged him not to kill Harry!.

The prophecy didn't matter because if Voldemort had just ignored it, then Harry wouldn't have had the Lily's protection and he would have been an ordinary boy and Voldemort would have continued his reign of terror!.

If you HAVE read Deathly Hallows, feel free to read what is below!. There are tons of spoilers if you haven't yet read DH!.

xx

When Voldemort went to kill Harry, Lily protected Harry and therefore Harry lived!. Voldemort became less than nothing because of this protection, but he still lived because the Horcruxes he had made!. But when Voldemort became less than nothing after murdering Lily, a part of his soul attached itself to Harry, the only living thing in the room!. Voldemort didn't know about this, and left!. So really, Voldemort's soul eventually came to be in 9 pieces; the 8 Horcruxes with Harry as one of them, and then the piece left in Voldemort!. Voldemort gave Harry the powers because Voldemort killed Lily, and then Lily's protection over Harry (giving up her life) protects Harry!.

Then, if GoF, do you remember Voldemort taking some of Harry's blood to come back to life!? That blood contained some of Lily's protection, so Harry couldn't die in DH even though Voldemort killed him; the protection binded him to this world!. Then Harry had died for all the people fighting at Hogwarts, so Voldemort couldn't harm them anymore!.

The prophecy didn't matter because if Voldemort hadn't listened to it, then all of this would never have happened!. Voldemort may have been considered an amazing wizard, but he still made a foolish mistake!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1) Voldy's "disappearance"

Actually, Voldy's body was destroyed!. Remember, my mum's sacrifice resulted in a powerful protection magic for me!. When Voldy tried to kill me, his spell backfired and his own body was destroyed!. Disintegrated!.
However, because of the horcruxes, his spirit remained tied to the earth!. He did not "pass on" to the realm of the dead (as did Sirius), but remained bound to the earth, no more than a disembodied spirit!. This is how we find him in the first book!.

2) that the prophecy does not matter, or is not real i think, with or with out the prophecy, harry was bound to kill voldemort

This is a little more strange!. Voldy *did* attack my parents because he heard half the prophecy, and (as a result) some of his power entered myself when his body was destroyed!. The prophecy was "self-fulfilling"!. It didn't matter in that, if Voldy had ignored it or never heard it, he would not have attacked me and I would not have gained a link to his power!. The prophecy had no power in itself: only the fact that Voldy *heard* (and acted on) part of the prophecy gave the prophecy any "power!." The prophecy by itself was powerless!.

3) i also don't get the part where Voldemort gave Harry powers

This is brought out more fully in book 7, but I can tell you here without giving too much away!. You know that, in forming a horcrux, murder is required, and this act results in a "splintering" of the soul!. Voldy's murder of my parents caused a "splintering" of his soul, and the magical backfire caused by the protection on me caused that splinter to end up *in* me! This "splinter" of Voldy's soul is why I can sometimes experience his surface thoughts and emotions, and also why I am a Parselmouth!. In effect, I am a horcrux!. This splinter is also why Voldy finds it easy to "possess" me in book 5!. However, that was very painful for him - as explained by Dumbly - so he didn't try that again!.

4) And i thought Voldemort was the greatest wizard, how did he not know that the prophecy didn't matter!.

I think I answered this!. It was *because* it mattered to him that the prophecy had power!. If he had ignored it, the prophecy itself would not have been fulfilled!.

5) How did he know the prophecy was referring to Harry!.

He didn't - he just guessed that I was more likely the figure mentioned in the prophecy!. There is no doubt that, if he had succeeded in killing me, he would have continued to the Longbottom's and killed Neville!.
