Question: Tolkien quote on friendship!?
I want to give a book to a friend, and as the thing that brought us together was our shared love for The Lord of the Rings, I wanted a quote from Tolkien on the importance of friends, the meaning of friendship, anything that may seem appropiate for the occasion!.
However, I haven't read anything by him in the last few years, and at present am quite occupied and unable to sit down and do a reread trying to fish something by myself, so I ask you!. Anyone!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

what about!.!.!.

Now is the hour come, Riders of the Mark, sons of Eorl! Foes and fires are before you, and your homes far behind!. Yet, though you fight upon an alien field, the glory that you reap there shall be your own forever!. Oaths ye have taken: now fulfil them all, to lord and land and league of friendship!

or!.!.!.

I name you Elf-friend, and may the stars shine upon the end of your road (Gildor from Three is Company)

Merry (A Conspiracy Unmaskled) “You can trust us to stick to you, through thick and thin – to the bitter end!. And you can trust us to keep any secret of yours – closer than you keep it yourself!. But you cannot trust us to let you face trouble alone, and go off without a word!. We are your friends, Frodo!.”

Elrond to the Fellowship (The Ring Goes South) “You will meet many foes, some open, and some disguised; and you may find friends along your way when you least look for it!.”

I can't really claim the credit for these though - have a look at the link!!

One final one, not about friendship, but a great line!.!.!.

Do not meddle in the affairs of Wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger!.

Hope that helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com
