Harder to answer then you might think!. Fantasy tends to run to larger books!. Some of the Dragonriders of Pern are 300ish pages

Dragon Riders of Pern by Anne Mcaffery

Anne Mcaffery is one of those authors whose books just leave you feeling good once you read the last page!. While a combination of Sci-fi and Fantasy (the argument continues about which one it is) they sit on my fantasy shelf!. The Sci-fi elements are so far in the past they hold very little bearing on the story, as a matter of fact, their origins (another planet) are completely forgotten until late in the series!. Anyone who has ever dreamed of riding a dragon should read these!.

Dawn Cook's first series were fairly short per book!.

Truth Series by Dawn Cook

This series is delightful!. The characters are kept to a minimum; a welcome change from heavier epic fantasy!. There is romance, mystery, heartache, humor, prejudice, magic (or is it science!?) and dragons!. Well I picture them as dragons, Dawn Cook names them Ruka but they are still huge, winged, magical, intelligent lizards, yep, thats dragons! There is also an evil villain bent on taking over the world, but that just adds more flavor!.

David Eddings first books were short books but slowly got bigger with each installment!.

The Belgariad (5), The Malloreon(5), by David and Leigh Eddings

I can't say enough good about these books!. They are full of rich content, fantastic worldbuilding and plenty of sorcery!. One of my biggest draws is the humor, the interaction between characters can be side splitting at times!. They are rift with dry wit, affectionate banter and personal quirks!. My favorite books hands down!.

Some of Patricia Brigg's fantasy was also light on pages!. Try Dragon Bones, Dragon Blood, Ravens Strike and Ravens Shadow!.

But then I'm guessing at what you mean by short!. If its short stories you want to look at anthologies, if its short as in series length I can give you a much larger list!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, if you want short *and* great, you have to read "The Sword in the Stone" by T H White, my second-favorite fantasy book!. Definitely pre-gunpowder, though "medieval" might be pushing it!. It's only about 300 pages!.

Other excellent, longer but still well within your page requirement of 700:
The Hobbit (my favorite)
The Once and Future King
The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights (Steinbeck)
The Last Unicorn (Beagle) - again, pre-gunpowder but not really medieval

Two of my all-time favorites are 'The Warrior Heir' and 'The Wizard Heir', by Cinda Williams Chima!. LOTS of midevil weaponery in the first, alot as well, in the latter!.!.!.I hope you read them!. I loaned both of them to a friend once and she came up to me when she finished and started yelling about how great they were!. The Warrior Heir is the first, and a third--'The Dragon Heir' will be out in August!.

There are many by Jules VerneWww@QuestionHome@Com

The Hero and the Crown and The Blue Sword (both by Robin McKinley) are almost classics, or at least, in my mind they are!. They both involve sword and sorcery type stuff, as well as the occasional dragon!. I liked The Hero and the Crown better!. It involves a princess who is a social outcast because her mom was a witch, and seduced the king with her magic!. Her mom dies during childbirth, but her daughter is gifted with her same skill for magic!. She must save her homeland from a foe that has the Hero's Crown, Damar's most treasured and powerful item!. It may sound cliched, but it was very original for its time!. Its female protagonist is very well developed!. It and The Blue Sword are very short!. The Blue Sword takes place in the same lands, or very near them, but with a different female character, and in a different time!.

If you are looking for something much longer, you could try the Wheel of Time Series by the late Robert Jordan!. There are currently eleven books, with one prequel, and a twelfth on the way!. Each of the books usually runs anywhere from 600-1000 pages!. The world RJ created was so vivid and imagined, and you can see the detail and time he put into creating it!. You can't say you've read fantasy until you've read him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
