Question: Book that I started reading 30 years ago but never finished!.!?
It was about a young man whose family proselytized full-time (sort of street preaching in a U!.S city)!. He disliked the life his family led and longed for a higher class life!. He got involved with a meek, lower class but nice girl, and left her (I believe at the alter) when he began climbing the ladder to success!. (I'm guessing he was ultimately going to destroy himself)!. I thought it was a classic author, but I have had no lucking in identifying it!.
