Question: Cuckoo's Nest, Ken Kesey on acid!?
Was it true Ken Kesey was on LSD when he wrote Cuckoo's Nest!. I would think it's hard to type and think while trippin, so did he write it in between trips, and did he even write on it at all!? I heard a rumour about it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Legend has it that Kesey wrote some sections of the book while on LSD (the Chief's descent into the underworld of the hospital, ex!.) A legend promoted by Kesey himself!. He worked at a mental hospital and volunteered for experiments with various psychoactive drugs which gave him some insight into the patients he wrote about, especially the idea of using the psychotic Big Chief as the narrator!.

Of course, he wrote in long-hand before the manuscript was typed up!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have heard this rumour before and think that it is entirely possible - read the Poem 'Party at Ken Kesey's'

However, the quality of the writing suggests that he was sober and thinking clearly when the book was written, so perhaps it was either a) written between trips or, b) Kesey was not taking acid at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He WAS a huge advocate of LSD, but there is no way to tell what he wrote when on/off drugs!.

That movie is still in my tp 20!.!.!.!.!.!.a real heart-breaker, and KUDOS to Jack N!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
