Question: Who do you prefer more-- Jane Austen or Charlotte Bronte!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Definitely Charlotte Bronte!. In fact, all the Bronte sisters!. They're writing was so much more daring and interesting that Jane Austen's books!. There seems to be one constant theme running through Jane Austen's books - find a husband and live happily ever after!.

Marriage seems to be ultimate aim for Austen's heroines whereas in Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte depicts a disastrous marriage in which Mr!. Rochester has married a mad woman and suffers terrible repercussions from this mistake!. In the same way, the marriages in Wuthering Heights are also disastrous and ultimately result in death and misery for those involved & in The Tenant of Wildfell Hall our heroine is running away from an abusive marriage!.

The Bronte sisters depict a far more realistic world and one that is much more satisfying to read about!. I find Jane Austen to be so dull in comparison, her work has none of the darkness and passion that is in Jane Eyre, Villette, Wuthering Heights or The Tenant of Wildfell Hall!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Both are greats by their own rights and own awesome talents!. Comparison is a tough task to do!. I would rather read both of them, enjoy and be happy that both of them were born and went ahead to write!

Well, personally I like both!. Their styles are so very different that it is difficult to compare them with each other!. if you had asked me to compare certain of their books, it woulf have been easier!. I love Pride and Prejudice by Austen but I also love Jane Eyre by Bronte!. These two books are my all-time favourites!. If I do prefer The Professor and Shirley by Charlotte Bronte to Austen's Mansfield Park or Emma, I like Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion better than Shirley or Villette!.

However if I had to advise someone on which one to read I would say both!. I just could not have done without either of them!.

Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love them both!
I think that Jane Austen wrote with better style!. She was very clever and that's why her stories are so fun to read!.
But Charlotte Bronte had more complicated plots like in Jane Eyre!. I think her stories were much more realistic!.
I actually like Emily better than Charlotte though!. Wuthering Heights was a masterpiece with its depiction of the dark side of romance!. That's something Jane never wrote about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Austen for her wit!.

As for the Brontes, I prefer the brooding Emily over the more stylistically conventional Charlotte!. In fact, most literary histories and critics concur that "Jane Eyre" is great, but "Wuthering Heights" is more original!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it's hard to compare as the styles are soo different, personaly I prefer the Bronte works to Jane Austin, but both are amazing considereing when they were written women were considered not to have brains!. and most women of the times accepted this view of them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Oh, that's a tough one!.
Jane Austen as she has more books I like!.
But Charlotte Br?nte created an unbeatable masterwork in Jane Eyre!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry to have to sit on the fence, but I couldn't choose between them!. I think they were both brilliant writers who were well ahead of their time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Definitely Jane Austen, she is more genuine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
