Question:

in the novel i'm *attempting* to write, i'm trying to get a better feel for my characters by filling out a character survey found on charlottedillon!.com!.!.!.

and i'm having trouble trying to think of what deadly sin i'd like two of my main characters to have (the third i've decided already)!.!.!.

the first one's a girl- she's clever and compassionate, but can be fickle, selfish, impulsive, and vengeful!.

the second's a guy- he's very loyal and honest, but has low self-confidence, and is hesitant, timid, and yielding, and sometimes finds that he lacks the courage to do what he knows is right!.

which of the seven deadly sins would suit each of these characters!?

1) I was going to go with wrath on the first one, since you said vengeful, but overall, I think she suits pride more--an inflated sense of worth in your own abilities or accomplishments!. Since she's selfish and vengeful, she would seem to me to have a big ego and to make stupid mistakes because only she knows the right answer (impulsive)!.

2) Sloth, definitely!. Sloth is knowing what to do but neglecting to do it, or not caring to do it!. Your guy seems to me like he'd let the girl steamroll over him instead of lifting a finger to stop her, and that would be sloth, which would keep him from doing what he knows is right!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd say the girl epitomises ENVY - I think her impulsive, vengeful nature could be fuelled by jealousy issues!.

And the guy screams of GLUTTONY - I envisage him as a real couch potato, too shy to go out and meet real people, so he sits in front of his computer 24/7 with his cyber pals, constantly stuffing himself on fast food to compensate for everything he's lacking!.

For the girl I would go with wrath since she's vengeful and impulsive, greed or envy since she's selfish!. I don't think being fickle alludes to any of the sins!.

envy and sloth, though i dont think people are that cut and dry!. Theres different lines to people, and no one is exactly a certain thing!. also, you've listed good things about these characters as well, so obviously they are not 'complete sin'!. the seven deadly sins o nthe other hand are sin incarnate, and therefore have nothing else to them!. With characters in a novel, unless they are supposed to be the sins, in which case they should be much more like them and have no good aspects, then you need to change the character, or at least their labels!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
