Question: I'm beginning to LOVE reading!. Where do you read!? How do you read!? Any little rituals!?
Two night ago I finished The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky, my first Russian classic and also THE BEST book I have ever read!. I had my first encounter with the truth that a book can have a genuine, profound impact on ones life!.

Prior to that I read Raynd's Fountainhead and it totally reshaped my values!.

Now I am starting a novel Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts!.

My main problem is either I'm neurotic or I have a hard time getting into the right mode to enjoy myself!. I try imagining everything in detail but end up spending too much time on a page!. Like this book Shantaram, I've heard it was so fascinating that I'm almost paranoid not to miss out on small details!. lol =p

When you read, do you focus on understanding every line perfectly or do you just enjoy it!?

I'm sitting on my bed but for some reason my *** hurts!. Laying down doesn't work!.

Where do you read and in what position!?

THANKS!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Connecting with "The Brothers Karamazov" as you have is a genuine aesthetic experience!. (Somewhat similar for "The Fountainhead!.")

Your notion of "a clean, well-lighted place" (Hemingway's phrase for what he'd like, for reading) is sound!. Reading is an immersion in the word and the whole picture, and is somewhat similar to devoting a particular place and method to meditation!.

Acquiring a comfortable chair, which supports good posture, and a reading lamp, which sheds good light, and locating these in a quiet, clean, and cool area, is truly a valuable and rewarding achievement!.

Some reasonably simple and enjoyable books, between your more profound books:

"The Great Divorce," C!. S!. Lewis!.
"West with the Night," Beryl Markham!.
"Extraordinary Knowing," Dr!. Elizabeth Mayer!.
"Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, Ph!.D!.
"The Master of Lucid Dreams," Dr!. Olga Kharitidi!.
"The Masters and Their Retreats," Mark Prophet!.
"Testimony of Light," Helen Greaves!.
"Nineteen Ways of Looking at Wang Wei," Weinberger and Paz!.
"Shakespeare in the Light of Sacred Art," Martin Lings, Ph!.D!.
"Going beyond the Pairs," Dennis McCort, Ph!.D!.
"Creation: Artistic and Spiritual," O!. M!. Aivanhov!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like to read outside!.
During the day it's sunny and warm!.
& at night it's cool, refreshing, and relaxing!.

I also read in the bath tub with really hot water!. It's so relaxing and comfortable!. I love it!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

When i read a book i don't stop after everyline to understand because that way i can't enjoy the book!. I usually read lying on my bed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i read on my back or in when ur legs are crossed and u sit on a comfy chair!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I just enjoy reading it!. If there are times when I feel like I'm not focusing I read that part again!. The way that I read is I lie down on my side on my bed and I tilt the book along!. When I get tired of lying on that side I turn to my other side!. If the weather isn't too hot I like to go outside and read in the shade on some comfy, cusioned chairs!. If you feel like you should always get the meaning out of the text then you should write in the book and mark down anything you think is significant!. Then you can continue on reading, come back to it later, and form your idea!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
