i mean i LOVE the books! they're what got me into reading in the first place (when i was 14)!. but WHY are they so popular! i dont even know why i like them so much!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Its like drugs, they make you escape your own sad little reality and venture you into a world that is better and/or more attractive to the one you live in, thus making it addictive, kind of like a drugWww@QuestionHome@Com

Because its the idea of a boy wizard that lives in everyday society!. The idea of a whole group of magical people and creatures who blend into modern day society is what makes them popular; kids and adults seem to love that idea, that there is some magic in the world!. also, the books are especially popular with kids because of Harry!. Harry is a boy wizard; he may be the same age as some kids who read the series, and he basically saves the world!. He may become somewhat of a role model in the fact that he is forced to carry such a burden, and ultimately saves the world by destroying Voldemort!. I think kids latch on to this idea because if this boy can do something trying and tough like that, then so can they!. Harry is like a role model and a strength figure from which kids gather strength and courage to be like Harry!. So this is why I think Harry Potter is so successful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think a lot of things came together just right to make them so popular!.

First of all, they are great books!. Her writing is not the best, actually, but the storytelling is superb!. I think that also feeds into #2!.!.!.!.

The books have complex themes!. Even the first one, which seemed aimed at kids, had these elements!. That made them attractive to a wider audience and age groups!.

There was mystery and uncertainty!. People love that kind of thing!.

The mania!. Once it became a "in" thing, you kind of had to try it!. And once you tried it, you were likely to like it!. Just think of how many things might turn out to be things you really love if you just tried them!.!.!. but we don't have time or energy to try everything on our own!. There was a strong external push for a lot of people to try these books!.

They had controversy, courtesy of all the freaky zealots!. I think a lot of people go on the defensive automatically when those types start bashing something!. Once you start defending something, your "like" of it tends to increase!.

The first three books came out one after the other, fueling the mania pretty well!.

There were movies! And toys! And stuff! LOL

There is a strong community!. Fanfiction has exploded!.!.!. I'm fairly sure it's one of the biggest, most prolific, and most active fandoms out there, perhaps starting to rival old staples like Star Trek!. The large number of complex, interesting, tragic, heroic, and flawed characters with mysterious pasts was just asking for fanfiction to explode like crazy!.

Anyway, for me they're awesome books and I've greatly enjoyed the craziness (Buying books at midnight! Standing in line for ten hours! LOL) over the years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The part of you that relates to the nerd (Hermione) - awkward freckled (Ron) - picked on guy with glasses (Harry) sees the hero in the underdog and cheers them on!.

4- J!.K's plot is new, it is appealing, no one ever had that idea of a boy who lived due to amazing circumstances!.
5- J!.K's characters are very well imagined and described, you can relate to them and find them similar to who you are or people around you!.
6- J!.K's books are deep and complex, they are well thought and they have very few mistakes for a series that long!.
7- J!.K has an abnormally fascinating imagination, and she has the ability to assist you in indulging yourself in her own thoughts, in a way I have yet to find someone who can do the same!.
8- J!.K has a way of making you live through the books, believing that you are part of the adventure, not just observing it from an outer environment!.
9- J!.K created admirable characters, she has accomplished the job of placing a lot of morals and things you can look up to, in her characters!.
10- Her plot actually means something, at least you learn from it, and may I say that the quotes she made up in her series are beyond magnificent!.
11- The books grow with you, they started as books a six year old can understand, to books that teenagers, adults and children can enjoy with great pleasure!.
12- The books are wild, they unleash and I mean UNLEASH you imagination, they make you imagine like you never did before!. Escaping the world you're in to another brilliant world of her own making!.

it takes imagination to be able to understand harry potter!.its popular bkz its about a teenager,how his life changes after he goes to hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry,its about love,jealousy,magic and of course all the actors are handsome!.harry potter takes you to a world you can only dream about!.harry potter makes us forget our problems for a moment and takes us to a magical world!.geez,it has all z elements to b so popular!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I guess it is the fact that the story does'nt end until the last book!. So while we wait for the next book to come out, the suspense builds on!. also, people are always curious about romance and the ron-hermione thing does'nt happen till the last chapters of the last book!. The fantasy, though meant for children, also appeals to the adults!.

And of course, it is the pure genius of JK Rowling, the pure awesomeness of the story and the crazy crazy publicity by both Scholastic and Warner Bros!.

Honestly I don't why I am obsessed with the books either!. I guess it's cos JK Rowling is just bloody brilliant!. I love her and her books!. Maybe the movies brought attention on the books as well as anything else!. That's how I got into reading the books!. I knew about the books before hand but I hated reading until my primary school teacher got us to do a book review and so I had to read a book and I chose Harry Potter!. I tried, my guy loves them both books and movies, but I love my Narnia series!. Nothing can compare to the adventures of the children, there is plenty of magic and a depth that makes me read them every few years just to return there!. When you cry because you have closed the 7th book and it is done!.!. that is a series to reckon with!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe it to be popular and a huge success because of JK's imagination!.!.!. If you read them you find out that maybe it tells you something in book 6 but the clue for you to discover it was already in book 2!.!.!. I dunno!.!.!. she makes the whole story pretty perfect! And it's easily narrated, so we readers can find it simple to follow it =)
