Question: What's the name of the kids book with the alligator in the garage!?

I want to get the book as a gift!. I remember it from when I was little!. Basically all I remember is a little boy who can't sleep or something!.!.!. and he follows a trail of food to the garage or basement where there is an alligator I believe!.
