Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I'd start with The Iliad and The Odyssey!. Then, you should definitely read a couple things by Shakespeare (Hamlet, King Lear, Much Ado, Othello!.!.!.) read two or three of his plays so that you can see their common themes and what he tries to do with his writing!. Then, you could read more modern "great books" like Gatsby, Invisible Man, The Things They Carried, Night, Crucible, I think the best way is for you to start with the "rocks" of literature (the Greek classics mentioned above) and continue to read classics until you're up to modern great books!.Www@QuestionHome@Com College professors don't expect their students to know much!. In a general way, try reading _College_ by Stephen Akey!. It's the story of someone who starts off ignorant and becomes a literate, culturally aware fellow four years later!. Here is western culture's top nine: The Iliad The Odyssey The Divine Comedy Hamlet King Lear Candide Faust Anna Karenina Waiting for GodotWww@QuestionHome@Com Tim Obrien The Things They Carried It's about war and graphic!. But its popular among teachers in English and History!. He's written other books as well :) Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Possibly "The Kite Runner!."Www@QuestionHome@Com Well you defiantly got to pick up the book "Angry Blonde"!. It's by rap artist Eminem!. He explains the manner of choosing words carefully to advance his musical ambitions into a more "mainstream" audience!. What I mean is that he might choose lyrics to bring out a whole different side of him but still address the entire fanbase only to recieve celabatory status and respect and ultimaley a bigger fan base!. I am sure your college professors would want you to read Angry Blonde as it incorporates a variety of perspectives towards writing!. Hope that helped!Www@QuestionHome@Com |
