i enjoy reading fantasy novels, where you can escape (sometimes literally to another world lol)!. i like books with things completely out of the ordinary, things that could never happen in real life!. i like them because books can be about ANYTHING!.!.!.so imagination is great :-) i dont like it when, with a choice of writing about anything, books are about a teenage romance or something predictable (unless they are amazing)

Write whatever story you like to write!. If you write to commercial pressures alone, nine times out of ten you'll lose interest and the book will taper off after 20k words at most!.

If you are interested in genres and popular trends, check the bestseller lists and extrapolate from there!. Decide on whom your audience is--adult, Y/A, kids!? SF fans, romance readers, Oprah's book club buyers!? -- but the plot should be wholly your own!.

For inspiration, try looking through newspaper articles and magazine articles and see what catches your eye as far as stories are concerned!.
