Big Fish with Ewan McGregor was a far superior movie to the bookWww@QuestionHome@Com

I usually like the books better than the movies!. There's so much more in them, with budget constraints & such with movies, a lot of the best stuff from the books are omitted unfortunately!.
I liked the movie version of 'Waiting for Godot' equally with the written play by Samuel Beckett & I loved the movie version of his short plays on equal footing with the written plays too!.
The early James Bond movies with Sean Connery I liked better than the two James Bond books I read!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've never had the experience where I've read a book then seen the movie and liked the movie more!.

However, I have seen some movies first and then bought the book and decided the movie was better!. I'm an old movie buff, and that's only happened to me a few times with old movies (with one exception)!. The one exception was Enchanted April with Josie Lawrence, Miranda Richardson, Joan Plowright, Polly Walker, Alfred Molina!. The movie was better than the book Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim, in my opinion!. Still, I read the book after seeing the movie!.

One old movie where that happened was called Strange Cargo with Clark Gable, Peter Lorre, Joan Crawford!. It was taken from the book Not Too Narrow!.!.!.Not Too Deep by Richard Sale!. I thought the movie was better, because it made sense and the book left you saying, "Huh!?"

Another movie I could name in this category was A Letter to Three Wives starring Kirk Douglas, Celeste Holm (though she was never seen), Jeanne Crain and Ann Sothern!. The book was called A Letter to Five Wives by John Klempner (I think it was originally published as a magazine series)!. The book was decent, but the movie was better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Davinci Code made a better movie!.!.!.well, I thought!.
The newest film version of Pride and Prejudice is also close to the book, and enjoyable!.
For Hamlet, the English version with the blonde actor!.!.!.which is close to 4 hours is another favourite/faithful interpretation of the basis of the novel!.
The American one in black and white from 1947 just BUTCHERED Hamlet; took out Rosencrantz and guildenstern!.!.!.afjkdja
And of course, Rosencrantz and Guildenster are Dead is a very good film, since Rod Stoddard filmed it -- he also wrote the play!. It's a good way to see what's going on, since it was a little bit confusing (Well, I did read it when I was sleep deprived!.)
Girl with a Pearl Earring is also faithful to the source material!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Great Question! Um, I would have to say Eragon!. hehe, just kidding!.

Seriously, I really enjoyed Where the Heart Is movie more than the book!. While the book was good, I felt like the movie takes out only the extremely verbose segments, the characters that never really develop and the parts that don't move the story!. All the good stuff is in the movie and some of it is even better; the ending was a lot better in the movie adaptation as well!. Of course, there would probably be no movie without the book and that would be a shame!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I can't think of any!. The book is always better, in my experience!. Movies like Eragon make me never want to watch another book-based movie!. Although, some movies are close to the book in terms of e enjoying them, like Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Dracula, newest Pride and Prejudice!. When it comes down to it, though, I think I'll always prefer the book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've never actually liked a movie better then the book, but the newest Pride and Prejudice movie was very close to the book, in my humble opinion!. Other then that, the movies have a tendency to mutilate the books!. Most of the times they (the movies) are good, but hold no candle to the actual books!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hmmm!.!.!.!. This is kind of different BUT I really did love Romeo and Juliet, the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes!.!.!.!. I just loved how they showed everything and made you, in this day and age, understand!. I adore Romeo and Juliet the way it is written, but I think that the way they made that version on the movie made a lot more people decide after seeing the movie that they could take on the read!.!.!. you know what I mean!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The only movie that I preferred over the book, was Jane Austen's Mansfield Park (and the 1999 Frances O'Connor version of the movie)!. BUT - I saw the movie first, so I don't quite fit in to your scenario!.

It actually ruined the book for me for a little while, I was so disappointed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I almost, not to say that I do but ALMOST, like the film adaptation of Stardust by Neil Gaiman better than the novel!. I think it has a more upbeat ending!.!.!.

Since I've always seen Stardust as a fairy tale story, it should have a happily ever after ending!. Tristan and Yvain going to the heavens as stars for all time is a romantic, happily ever after if ever I heard one!

Good luck and happy reading!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most times that I've read a book and seen the movie, I've preferred the book!. I only have two exceptions right now:
Neil Gaiman's Stardust - the book and movie balance each other out
The Marine - the movie was pretty good, while the book was a kinda lame adaptation of the scriptWww@QuestionHome@Com

The Hill by Rigby , Full Metal Jacket based upon Hasford's The Short Timers , The Bridge Over The River Kwai predicated upon *Pierre Boulle's eponymous novel ,et!.al!.

Well, the Movie "Freeway" was kind of a modern interpretation of "Little Red Riding Hood" and I liked it better!. But it was a VERY loose interpretation!.

I liked The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe much better as a film!. I never managed to get into the Narnia books but the movie was enjoyable!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Bourne Identity, just because I couldn't get into the book!. also the 1996 Romeo+Juliet (I couldn't understand all that old speak) and I am Legend!. The I am Legend book was a massive rip off!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Silence of the Lambs is a better movie than book in my opinion!. also many of the James Bond books are not as good as the movies!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am Legend and Wuthering Heights--for starters!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Jurassic ParkWww@QuestionHome@Com

Never judge a book by its movie!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
