Question: Which is the best name for a dark mysterious hero (i'm writing a fantasy/sci-fi story)!?
1!. Culain (mythical smith)
2!. Kayne (intelligent)
3!. Kilian (blind)
4!. Orin (white)
5!. Edan (full of fire)
6!. Kail (mighty one)
7!. Keir (dark)

I know they're all exotic (or wierd) but I love Celtic names and thought they sounded cool!. Tell me which one you think you would like the best (out of the choices above) if you were reading a book and that 10 points is yours!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
"Kayne" is too much like "Cain" from the bible, so that's out (unless you intend to make several parallels with your character and the biblical one)!.

"Killian" is a type of beer!.

"Kail" is too much like "kale", something you eat!.

"Keir" is wrong - sounds too much like "Care", and if his second name's "bear" you might as well name your villain fuzzy-wuzzy!.

So, we're left with "Culain" (reminiscent of Cuchulain), "Orin" (used before - though I can't recall where) and Edan (sounds very Tolkienesque) Tough call, as all resemble heroic names to my ear!. I'd go with "Culain" for sounding the "harshest"!.

All of the names are interesting, and as a female, I would find the name Edan most attractive!. But if the character is a dark sort!.!.!.I would suggest Orin!. Not for the meaning (I doubt many people reading the story will look up the name meaning), but how it sounds, interesting and unique!. The others are just a tad boring!.
EDIT: I believe everyone's suggesting Keir because it means "dark"!.!.!.but if you met someone named Keir, it would probably seem as if they were a friendly, light-hearted sort!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
