First, I have to tell you that I think your story was great!. The worse thing that you can do is to dwell on the belief that your writing is not as good as somebody else's!. Everyone else is not wayyy better than you, just different!. The other post was correct in suggesting that you should read!. Do it a lot, it will help you!. Make sure you are reading books and stories that are written the way you want to write!. Do not spend a lot of time reading books that are boring to you, or that you feel are written badly!. There is value in this, but just as far as it shows you what not to do!. I've seen it written several times that life is too short to spend time reading bad fiction!.
I wanted to add something about the piece that you gave as an example of "something awesome"!. The work is not all that great!. The author uses way too much dialogue!. It gets tiresome!.
If you are not sure what is considered good or even great writing by literary people, then choose books that have won awards within the genres you most enjoy reading!. It will give you an advantage in your writing to have been influenced by those who are accomplished writers!.
You wanted specific tips on how you can improve your writing!. There are many books on the market that can help you take something you have written and make it better, or how to create something from scratch!. I will list the books below for you that I have found helpful!. These are by no means the only writer's help books available, but the three I list are ones that I have actually read and enjoyed!
All in all, I hope you will remember these things;
Your work is not below average,
You should read some each day if possible,
You should write some each day if possible, and If you are going to look to another author for influence, make sure they are good enough to elevate your skill level!.
(By all means email me if I can be of further help!)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Keep reading!. You can only write better if you read better!. Pick up the professionals, like Lee Child or Dan Brown, and study their techniques, their styles, the way they twist plots around!. Or if you seek younger audiences, pick up Chris Crutcher, and note the way he writes about young people!. Or if you want a taste of older, more dignified speech you can pick up Nathaniel Hawthorne or Mark Twain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree with the first answerer (and pay no attention to the second answerer who was very rude), the best way to learn is to read what others have written!. Continue reading and writing, and you'll get better very quickly!. However, if thats not enough there are numerous sites and books out there concerning the different aspects of writing whether it be dialogue, action, thought-process, character building, etc!.

Best of luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
